Why should you offer your horse hay in a hay net? If you watch wild horses that stay 24 hours on the pasture you see them grazing all the time. Horses actually graze about 15 hours daily. This is their natural behavior: consuming many foragebased meals throughout the day. You are able to mimic this feeding pattern by offering hay in a hay net. One way how you mimic your horses natural behavior is by giving unlimited access to hay, all day and all night. With horse hay nets you come the closest to nature for your horse. You offer hay in an unlimited way but your horse has to work for it, meaning its foraging period is extended to an almost natural duration. Your horse cannot consume the hay in the hay net in an excessively way. Studies were made demonstrating that horse hay nets were effective in increasing the total time of forage consumption by adult horses. Offering hay in hay nets motivates horses to extend their foraging time to 10 to 13 hours daily coming close to their natural grazing behavior that is about 15 hours per day. You need to find out if feeding with a hay net will work for your horse. Sometimes it needs 4 to 5 feedings with the hay net in order to acclimate horses to this kind of feeding. Also consider hanging the hay net low in order to follow the horse’s natural physiology. Eating with their heads down keeps horses healthy. Hay nets are an effective method to feed your horse without having to use a trough. The Horse hay Net is a…
